A brief note published at the Institut International de la Marionnette (IIM) website informs the new building of the École Superieure National des Arts de la Marionnette (ESNAM) at Charleville-Mezières, France, will be coming to a reality on time. 2013 is the year for the end of preparatory studies and the beginning of the works at the former Troussel store, in Charleville city center. These will consist on a total reform and the conservation of its façade, and they should be starting in some months.
This has been a long-awaited project. In 2010, it had a pre-budget of 8 million euros, and in 2012, according to the information published by L’Union – L’Ardennais last year, the total amount for the works was finally set in 8,32 M€. One of the most remarkable points in this projects is the public support received by French governamental institutions: the Regional Council will be giving the 16,6 % of the funds, while Coeur d’Ardenne association of urban areas and owner of the place will be in charge of managing the works, that should be finished before 2016, although IIM announced it will be ready at the beginning of 2015.
The new ESNAM building will allow teachers and students have better spaces and creation conditions than they have at the current school and will be boosting our art even more in one of its main capitals.
